What is Accreditation?
Laboratory accreditation provides formal recognition to competent laboratories, thus providing a ready means for customers to identify and select reliable testing, measurement and calibration services. Accreditation by A2LA demonstrates MOCON's standards of excellence, giving our customers peace of mind that they can consistently trust our results.
As part of accreditation, a laboratory's quality management system is thoroughly evaluated on a regular basis to ensure continued technical competence and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025. The laboratory is also required to participate in relevant proficiency testing programs between reassessments, as a further demonstration of technical competence. Laboratory accreditation can only be granted by an accreditation body. Accreditation provides the underlying assurance that organizations are adhering to internationally recognized standards. For calibration and testing laboratories, that standard is ISO/IEC 17025.
Why is it important to use an ISO 17025 accredited lab?
Laboratory accreditation is highly regarded both nationally and internationally as a reliable indicator of technical competence. ISO 17025 is used to assess factors relevant to a laboratory’s ability to produce precise and accurate test and calibration data; including:
- Traceability to national standards such as ASTM
- Maintenance of test equipment
- Quality of testing environment and sampling
- Validity and suitability of test methods
- Quality assurance of test and calibration data
- Competence of laboratory staff
- Appropriate handling and transportation of samples
How does this benefit you as the customer?
ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation helps you minimize risk by ensuring that you are choosing a technically competent lab that has a sound quality system in place. This also allows you to avoid expensive retesting, which enhances your confidence in our product by assuring that it has been thoroughly evaluated by an independent, competent testing or calibration laboratory that has been assessed by a third party.
Manufacturers and Exporters
Accredited laboratories receive a form of international recognition, which allows their data to be more readily accepted in overseas markets. This recognition helps to reduce costs for manufacturers and exporters that have their products or materials tested in accredited laboratories, by reducing or eliminating the need for retesting in another country.
